The College Acceptance Rate Racket

What do these numbers tell us about the competition among students today, or about higher education in general?

I’m just not sure that this really matters. In one of the statements the “first choice” acceptance rate is stated as being close to 80%. If that is so, and a typical student applies to more than 1 school, then why is it a problem?

Should Stanford be forced to accept more students? Limit applications? US News stop using acceptance rate as a factor?

Make top 100 schools charge $500 per application?
